Ensure the right bite!

Various ailments of the body such as i.a. back pain, headaches, tinnitus and migraine, often have a common and mostly undiscovered cause: Your teeth and their incorrect bite.

Even the smallest changes of the teeth, jaws, jaw joints and muscles can cause a number of TMJ and dysfunction. These disorders in dentistry are referred to as temporomandibular dysfunction (CMD). Your dentists in the Dental Clinic Lucerne successfully help you to get rid of your complaints by using dental functional diagnostics and functional therapy.

Call us now, since with us you are in good hands.

Temporomandibular dysfunctions occur from childhood on to adulthood and are noticeable by different clinical symptoms such as i.a. pain when chewing, TMJ sounds, on average tooth wear (abrasion), limited mouth opening, painful muscle tension in the area of the cheek or temple, isolated tooth mobility or tooth movement and pain in the head and TMJ. A malocclusion can even cause migraines, back pain, neck or muscle tension.

The causes of CMD can greatly vary due to the different clinical symptoms:

Grinding, tension, misalignment of the temporomandibular joint or the teeth, TMJ clicks, to high fillings after dental treatments, changes after orthodontic treatment, tooth loss, back pain due to poor posture, whiplash or psychological problems.

Depending on the nature of the CMD, we offer different treatment options. To compensate for an incorrect bite, we produce relaxation splints for the night and correction splints for the day. The preparatory work with splints is especially necessary for corrections with dentures or before orthodontic treatment.

Since the CMD-treatment may extend over weeks and months, an individual bite correction is achieved by new chewing surfaces by metal-free fillings / inlays, dentures or orthodontic measures, only when no pain is felt.

We do not only do splint therapies and corrections of the bite, but also take care of the CMD-adjuvant treatment and pain management. Thus  an interdisciplinary collaboration with other specialists in the areas of physiotherapy, jaw orthopedics, neurology and / or osteopathy is carried out.
